Not every tale of Middle-earth is told with a sword in hand. The One Ring - Hobbit Tales turns the spotlight on the Shire and the hobbits who live there, in a supplement for Free League's award-winning Middle-earth roleplaying game.
The book is set in the year 1360 by Shire Reckoning, long before the Ring ever left Bag End. A company of hobbits helps a younger Bilbo Baggins gather material for his book, which leads to stolen maps, missing fireworks, undelivered post and rumours drifting out of the Old Forest.
What's inside:
- A gazetteer of the Shire covering all four farthings, its villages, its families and its quieter corners
- Five short adventures that link together into a light campaign
- Seven ready-to-play hobbit heroes, Bilbo Baggins among them
- Notable folk of the Shire, from Bounders and Bagginses to Tom Bombadil
- Encounter tables and travel details for journeys close to home
This is Middle-earth at its most welcoming: low on battle, high on curiosity, mischief and second breakfasts. That makes it a fine first step for groups new to The One Ring, and a gentler change of pace for companies used to darker roads. A 104-page hardcover.
One note for long-time players: much of this material first appeared in the 2022 Starter Set for The One Ring, and is now collected in hardcover.
