What is this game?
Frisia, around the year 700. The tide decides when you travel, the old gods still have their shrines on the terps, and King Redbad holds the coast against the Franks. MythWatch: Age of Redbad is a cooperative historical roleplaying game made in Leeuwarden by the foundation Mythemakers, together with the Fries Museum. One Guide, three to five players, about two hours, and the rules arrive as you play. In English or in Dutch, from twelve up.

Why do we love it?
Because it is the real Frisia, as far as anyone can tell: every place, object and name comes out of a research project with archaeologists and universities, and the artwork was drawn by people, not generated. The dice are a handful of d6 that beginners read at a glance, you can hand your Fate dice to a friend, and the box has everything from a play map to a sceatta coin. We know the people who made it, and it shows on every page.

Why is it our game of the month?
Because November is the month Netherbook gets a door in Leeuwarden. On 21 November we officially open cell 22 in the Blokhuispoort, a short walk from the museum where the Redbad exhibition stands, and on 28 November we are at the MytheMarkt next to the makers themselves. A game about our own ground, in our own town, in the month we move in. There was never going to be another choice.
