Rosenstrasse - Deluxe Boxed Set

Berlin, 1933. Four couples, each a Jewish and a non-Jewish German partner, are about to watch their city turn against them. Rosenstrasse is a historical roleplaying game by Moyra Turkington and Jessica Hammer, published by Unruly Designs, about love, marriage and quiet resistance in the decade that led up to the Rosenstrasse protest of 1943.

Each player takes on two characters from the four couples. Over an in-game decade you follow how the Reich's racial laws, restrictions and violence strip away work, home, dignity and safety, scene by scene, until the deportations begin and the women of Berlin gather in the Rosenstrasse to demand their husbands back. The game is played in a single session of two to five hours, with two to four players and one facilitator who guides the story from the Director's Guide. No prior historical knowledge is needed to run it, and no dice are involved.

The deluxe box holds a 228-page Director's Guide, eight character cards, a 94-card Rosenstrasse deck, twenty risk tokens and four star patches in velvet bags, and twenty postcards. It can be played at the table or as a semi-live game, and it has found a home in classrooms and museums as well as with regular groups. Rosenstrasse was a finalist for the Diana Jones Award in 2023 and an ENNIE nominee for Best Writing in 2022.

A note before you buy: this is a serious game about antisemitism, persecution and genocide, intended for adults. It asks for care and a facilitator who is comfortable holding difficult scenes. In return it offers an evening your group will keep talking about, and a way into a piece of history that too few people know.
