The Adamant Lapis is hauling rock samples and ore, the kind of cargo nobody looks at twice. Somewhere in the hold sits a large, featureless sphere that does absolutely nothing. Unless you are already dead. When the first crew member dies, the sphere starts pulling, and it does not care what is in the way: bodies, bulkheads, the hull itself.
Dead Weight is a 12-page one-shot for the Mothership RPG, written, illustrated and laid out by Norgad (Roach Motel) and edited by A Rat. It is a cascading disaster rather than a monster hunt: the players are technicians aboard a ship that is coming apart around them on an eight-hour timeline, with incidents they can prevent if they read the signs in time, and oxygen, vacuum and hull breaches as the real antagonists. The ship is fully destructible, with damage descriptions for every compartment.
The booklet comes with a crew manifest, deck plan and cargo manifest to hand to players, a Warden's reference sheet for tracking time and NPCs, and an original nine-track soundtrack by jam2go. Content warning: gore, skinning and suffocation. Compatible with Mothership first edition; you need the core rules to play.
