The will has been read, and it is nothing if not complicated. As the probate attorney of a recently deceased eccentric, you are to host the elaborate games and challenges their testament demands, until one heir emerges as the principal beneficiary. There is just one complication: the deceased suspected that one of the heirs might be a murderer.
Estate of Play is a solo mystery journaling game by Ethan Yen, built on the Hints and Hijinx system by Pandion Games. Guided by prompts, playing cards and a handful of dice, you run each challenge, note what the heirs let slip, and piece the clues together in your meticulous case notes until you can point at the culprit.
The tone sits closer to Knives Out than to a grim procedural: playful, satirical and just a little melodramatic. A session takes one to two hours, and you need no experience with journaling games to enjoy it, which makes this a fine first step into solo play as well as a treat for seasoned journalers.
